RECOMMENDATION:

DESCRIPTION:

An American drama from 2011 directed by Terrence Malick. The film won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is regarded as one of the most contemplative works in the history of cinema.

The film is a poetic story about life, death, and spirituality, depicting the fate of the O’Brien family in 1950s small-town Texas. The story focuses on the relationship between the father (played by Brad Pitt), who is strict and demanding, and the mother (Jessica Chastain), who represents warmth, love, and gentleness.

Through the prism of the upbringing of their eldest son, Jack (played by Sean Penn as an adult), the film explores universal questions about the meaning of existence, the role of God, and humanity’s place in the universe. In his characteristic manner, Malick weaves personal narrative with cosmic reflections. The screen features images depicting the beginning of the universe, the birth of life on Earth, and even dinosaurs, juxtaposed with intimate events from the family’s life.
