LET’S TALK ABOUT:

Who is your favorite character from The Lord of the Rings? Why?

The Lord of the Rings is an allegorical novel – it contains many symbols – let us take a closer look at some of them:

– The One Ring – what does it symbolize?

– The Fellowship of the Ring – what can be said about it, why is it important?

– The Hobbits – what is their role in the story?

– Why is Aragorn called Strider at the beginning of the film and book, and why is this an important thread in the story?

– What does the departure of the Ring-bearers from the Grey Havens in one of the final scenes of the film symbolize?

The characters of The Lord of the Rings were guided by different motivations in their decisions – try to identify one dominant value (from the list below) that characterizes each of the following characters: Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Arwen, Gandalf, Legolas, Éowyn

Which of these values are particularly close to you?

A recurring motif in The Lord of the Rings is Gandalf’s words about how, although we have no control over the entire world, we have a different task: “to decide what to do with the time that is given to us.” Do you think you make good use of your time?

Frodo makes the decision to complete the mission even though he is convinced it will cost him his life – do you think you would be capable of such a decision, and why?

Are there values for which you would be willing to sacrifice your comfort and peace of mind? Which ones?
